How we build

Principles

These are the constraints and commitments that shape every decision we make — from architecture to copy to interaction design. They are not aspirational. They are operational.

01

Privacy by default

Every product decision starts with the question: does this require access to more data than we need? Privacy is not a settings screen or a compliance checkbox. It is the default state. When we add a feature, we look for the version that works with the least data. When we cannot find one, we do not ship the feature.

02

Metadata, not prompts

We built Laivara around a hard constraint: never see what you type. This is not primarily a privacy strategy — it is an architectural choice that forces us to be creative. Understanding AI habits through metadata alone turns out to be both sufficient for meaningful insight and a much cleaner engineering problem. Patterns, not prompts.

03

Calm, not alarmist

It would be easy to design a product that panics you about your AI usage. Red scores, alarming graphs, streak breaks. We have deliberately rejected every one of those patterns. Laivara speaks at the same volume regardless of what it sees. We trust you to draw your own conclusions from honest information. The tone is always: here is what is happening, here is what it might mean, you decide.

04

Patterns, not moments

A single AI session tells you almost nothing. A pattern across weeks tells you something real. Laivara is designed to surface gradual trends rather than snapshot anomalies. This makes the product slower to feel impressive — you need to use it for a few weeks before the insights become meaningful — but it makes the insights worth having.

05

User in control

You set the terms. You define what normal looks like, what your intentions are, and when you want to be nudged. Laivara does not have an opinion about how much AI you should use. It gives you the information to form your own. You can export all your data, delete your account, or pause tracking at any time — without filling out a form or emailing support.

06

No dark patterns

We do not use deceptive defaults, hidden cancellation flows, manufactured urgency, or misleading metrics. If you want to downgrade or cancel, the option is in your settings — not buried three levels deep with a confusing confirmation screen. We believe the long-term health of this product depends on earning trust repeatedly, not extracting value before users notice.

These principles are public commitments.

If you see Laivara acting in contradiction to any of them, we want to know. Email us at hello@laivara.com.
